His Dream

What would the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. say if he were alive today
Would he think we were living his Dream or would he bow his head and pray
For the current state of this nation that seems to be stuck in time
Where we are still judged by our skin color not for our brilliant minds

Would he be disappointed in our men who refuse to step up to the plate
To be there to take care of their families, at least, for their kid’s sake
Instead of forcing our women to play the role of both mom and dad
While trying to make the best of the situation no matter how bad

What would he think of our young women needing and looking for love
Looking in all the wrong places instead of seeking and trusting the one above
Having baby after baby out of wedlock without a father in sight
If Dr. King, Jr. would have known this, would he have continued to fight

Despite the bad, good things have happened and progress has been made
We are not afraid to stand up for our rights and call a spade, a spade
We have even elected the first black president ever, Obama is his name
He's handling business, while looking good, and always on his game

So I would say to Dr. King, Jr., one of the nations great black men
While we aren't where we should be, things are better now than back then
We promise to keep pressing forward and one day fulfill your dream
Where black, white, yellow or green are all on the same team
