Struggling in Silence...

We were never taught how to deal with our troubles
But told to keep quiet about our struggles
So we do and then the self-destruction begins...
The self-hate vs. self-love battle we’re fighting within
Internalizing the pain instead of releasing the hurt
Falling down, staying down and wallowing in the dirt
Because getting up requires putting in the work
Crying but hiding our tears by standing in the rain
So no one else sees the evidence of our pain
Too afraid to admit that we sometimes stumble and fall
Even making ourselves sick from dealing with it all
Not really dealing but just pretending to be
While putting up a front for others to see
Sometimes our struggle is too much to bear
But the only help we believe in seeking is prayer
So we pray and we pray and we pray
While struggling to make it thru each day
The silence of having to struggle alone is a horrible feeling
However breaking the silence can be the start to healing
Please know it is alright to accept guidance
And stop struggling in silence

In The War

Me against the world
Fighting to stay alive
Doing what I must to survive...
Using my pen like a weapon

Shooting pieces of worldly nuggets
Slaying with words instead of bullets

Reloading…
Killing my target with knowledge
Using wisdom and power
As my strong tower
My ammunition of choice
Penning my voice
Praying it keeps me safe and unharmed
I’m always learning
So I'm always armed

Survival for Our Youth

In order to survive in this world, we all have to roll up our sleeves and fight
Fight to be equal and successful, to live in peace and harmony, it’s our right
We as a community need to teach this new generation to step up and speak out
Being happy, living the American Dream, that’s what it’s all about

When will our youth realize the decisions they make now will affect the rest of their lives
Endangering their future? All it takes ..... one stupid, careless mistake
They must open their eyes and see the world is not equal, nor is it fair
So they have to give 110% always because it is tough out there

As the old saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child these days
If we train them in the way they should go, they will not part from those ways
So I say to you, each one, teach one to be the best they can be
The opportunities are endless but nothing in this day and time is free
